Colin Pitts
Colin Pitts approached Blue Arrow for work in August 2003. He is a Class 1 licence
holder who had not driven regularly for over 3 years and considered himself extremely
rusty and possibly lacking in confidence. Colin had previously worked as a driver
with Simon Holland at Exel in the early / mid nineties and was known to be extremely
reliable. Colin said that he had been offered immediate work with other agencies
but preferred to speak to someone that he knew to get some advice before stepping
into the agency game. Colin was advised by Blue Arrow to take some class 1 refresher
lessons to build up his competence and confidence and that we would look to place
him when he felt ready. This he duly did and then registered with Blue Arrow in
September 2003.
Blue Arrow then spoke to a number of local Exel sites on Colins behalf and explained
his situation. Simon Holland was able to sell out with confidence having previously
worked with Colin and we agreed with an Exel client that we would place him free
of charge for 1 shift so that he could accompany their own driver on a job in order
to familiarise himself with the job and build up some confidence.
Having received positive feedback from their driver, Exel then booked Colin for
work and he completed 4 months on this contract before moving onto another Exel
site. Colin has now worked regularly for Blue Arrow for 4 years and we have not
had a problem with him throughout this time.
Colin feels grateful for the chance that we gave him and also for the sound advice
to take lessons before being placed in work rather than throwing him in at the deep
end in order to make a quick profit. The client were also happy that we approached
them and explained the situation and background of the individual rather than trying
to place an inexperienced driver. This helped to develop the relationship with the
client and the driver as the three parties worked in partnership in order to reach
the desired goal.
