The Transport Management of DHL’s site at Bawtry asked Blue Arrow Driving to a provide
a dedicated driving service to increase the availability and calibre of it’s temporary
HGV1 driving staff in June 2005. The site had previously used 22 agencies to fulfil
it’s temporary driving requirements.
DHL Bawtry is a multi - site operation situated in a rural location. With varying
demands in production from their own clients, DHL are reliant on the provision of
temporary HGV1 drivers to meet it’s delivery demands and to be able to increase
it’s driving workforce during busy periods and at short notice as required.
There is strong competition for reliable and experienced HGV1 drivers in the area
with companies in the town centre recruiting for similar positions. These also in
some instances offer a higher pay rate.
Blue Arrow Driving appointed a strong and experienced Driving Team to undertake
recruitment and training to release DHL staff from non – core tasks. This gave the
DHL transport team a single point of contact who could handle all agency requirements
and invoicing procedures.
The Driving Team quickly established a working relationships with the Transport
Department, who were initially sceptical of how successful the driving team would
be, they had little confidence that one agency could fulfil all of it’s requirements.
These concerns were soon put to rest.
Blue Arrow Driving handled all DHL’s HGV1 driving recruitment functions with dedicated
marketing campaigns and candidate attraction through to the interviewing and placing
of candidates. Part of the campaign involved designing, organising and distributing
specific vacancy flyers and advertising, to target available labour from the local
village population. This also highlighted that is was easier to travel to Bawtry
than to the town centre. Our Mobile Recruitment Centre was also used to attract
drivers from other areas.
